Gasshuku
Gasshuku (合宿)If you have a look at the kanji for gasshuku it's made of two commonly used kanji:
* 合: meaning to combine or fit
* 宿: mean to lodge
In the world of budo it refers to people of the same dojo staying somewhere together for a time in order to practiCe harder or more than usual.
The HMAF Gasshuku is a semi-annual event held on the west coast in the spring and the east coast in the fall. At the HMAF Gasshuku, Hakko Densho Ryu practitioners as well as martial artists from all different arts gather to train together. Attendance by all HMAF members is encouraged and non-members are always welcome. This event is open to all, regardless of your martial system and rank.
We invite all martial artists interested in furthering their knowledge in Hakko Densho Ryu Jujutsu to attend. The Gasshuku gives us the opportunity to share our lives for a specific period of time and strengthen our bond through training. This unique opportunity includes many hours of intense training and hands-on instruction with senior students in the details of technique. In the spirit of togetherness, we also schedule several social opportunities for attendees. We also include several non-martial arts activities for family members who do not train and welcome them to join us.
Training includes classes during which all rank levels are addressed. All Shihans in attendance receive individual attention and private review of Shihan waza. HMAF rank testing is held at the Gasshuku. HMAF members testing for rank are expected to be present the entire weekend.
